What to Expect at Your First Aesthetics Consultation

Welcoming aesthetic clinic consultation room

You have been thinking about it for months, maybe longer. You have researched treatments, scrolled through before-and-after photos, read reviews, and quietly weighed up whether now is the right time. The only thing standing between you and actually taking that step is a question that holds many people back: what actually happens at an aesthetics consultation?

The uncertainty is understandable. If you have never visited an aesthetic clinic before, the process can feel opaque. Will you be pressured into booking a treatment on the spot? Will it be awkward explaining what bothers you about your face? Will they try to sell you something you do not need?

At Éclat & Harmonie Studio Clinic, we believe the consultation is the single most important appointment in your entire treatment process. It is where trust is built, goals are clarified, and a plan is created that genuinely serves you. Here is exactly what to expect.

Before You Arrive: How to Prepare

A little preparation before your aesthetics consultation can make the appointment more productive and help you get the most from your time.

Think about your concerns, but keep an open mind. It helps to have a general sense of what bothers you. Perhaps it is the lines between your brows, a loss of volume in your cheeks, dull skin texture, or your lips feeling thinner than they once were. You do not need to know which treatment you want, as that is what the consultation is for, but having a starting point makes the conversation more focused.

Gather your medical history. You will be asked about your general health, any medications you take (including over-the-counter supplements), allergies, and any previous aesthetic treatments you have had. If you take blood-thinning medication, have any autoimmune conditions, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, these are all important to disclose. Being thorough here ensures your safety and allows the team to match their recommendations to your needs accurately.

Come with a clean face if possible. If your consultation is focused on skin quality or facial assessment, arriving without heavy makeup allows for a more accurate evaluation. If that is not practical, do not worry. It is not a dealbreaker.

Write down your questions. It is very common to walk out of any medical appointment and immediately think of something you forgot to ask. Jotting down a few questions in advance, about downtime, costs, how many sessions you might need, or anything else on your mind, ensures nothing gets missed.

The Medical History Review

Every aesthetics consultation at Éclat & Harmonie begins with a thorough medical history review. This is not a formality. It is a clinical necessity.

Your medical background informs every aspect of your treatment plan. Certain conditions, medications, or allergies can affect which treatments are safe and appropriate for you. For example, blood-thinning medications may increase the risk of bruising with injectables, while some skin conditions may need to be managed before certain treatments can proceed.

This is also the moment to share any previous aesthetic treatments you have had, even if they were at a different clinic. Knowing what has been done before, and how your skin responded, provides valuable context. If you have had filler previously and are unsure of the product or quantity used, mention that as well; it helps build a complete picture.

Everything discussed during this stage is confidential and handled with the same discretion you would expect from any healthcare professional.

The Face and Skin Assessment

This is the part many first-time clients are most curious about, and sometimes most nervous about. The assessment is a detailed, professional evaluation of your facial anatomy, skin condition, and the specific areas of concern you have raised.

At our private studio clinic in Kentish Town, London NW5, this assessment is conducted by our Lead Consultant in a calm, private setting. There is no audience, no rush, and no judgement.

The assessment typically involves:

  • Analysing your facial proportions and structure. Understanding your bone structure, fat pad distribution, and natural symmetry helps identify which areas could benefit from treatment and which are best left alone.
  • Evaluating your skin quality. This includes texture, tone, hydration levels, elasticity, pore size, pigmentation, and any sun damage. Skin quality assessment may inform recommendations for treatments such as skin boosters, polynucleotides, or microneedling.
  • Examining your dynamic and static lines. Dynamic lines appear when you move your face (smiling, frowning, squinting) and are typically addressed with Botox. Static lines are visible even at rest and may require a different approach, such as dermal fillers or bio-stimulators.
  • Discussing your concerns in detail. This is a two-way conversation. You explain what bothers you; the consultant explains what they observe clinically. Sometimes these align perfectly. Sometimes a concern you have is less significant than you think, while something you had not noticed may be contributing to the overall impression you are unhappy with. Either way, honesty in both directions leads to the best outcomes.

The Treatment Recommendation

Based on the medical history review and facial assessment, you will receive a clear, personalised treatment recommendation. This is not a sales pitch. It is a clinical plan designed for your specific anatomy, skin condition, and goals.

At Éclat & Harmonie Studio Clinic, every recommendation follows a principle of honest, conservative guidance. If a single treatment can address your concern effectively, we will say so. If a phased plan involving multiple treatments would deliver a better result, we will explain why and outline the suggested sequence and timeline.

You will be told:

  • Which treatment or treatments are recommended, and why
  • What results you can realistically expect
  • How many sessions may be needed
  • What the downtime and aftercare look like
  • The cost of each treatment and the overall plan

Crucially, there is never any pressure to commit on the spot. An aesthetics consultation is an information-gathering exercise for both parties. You are assessing whether the clinic and approach feel right for you; the consultant is assessing what would genuinely serve your goals. If you want to go away, think about it, and come back in a week or a month, that is perfectly fine.

The No-Pressure Philosophy

This is worth emphasising, because it is one of the most common fears people have about visiting an aesthetic clinic for the first time, and one of the things that sets a reputable clinic apart.

At Éclat & Harmonie, we never pressure anyone into treatment. We do not use countdown timers, limited-time discounts, or artificial urgency. If the right answer for you is "not right now," we will tell you that. If the right answer is "you do not actually need this treatment," we will tell you that too.

The consultation exists to empower you with information so you can make a decision that feels right. Many of our most loyal clients took weeks or even months between their first consultation and their first treatment, and that is exactly how it should be.

All treatments at Éclat & Harmonie Studio Clinic are administered by qualified, registered practitioners. Our Lead Consultant provides expert guidance throughout the planning process, ensuring you receive recommendations grounded in clinical expertise rather than commercial targets.

Questions Worth Asking

If you are unsure what to ask during your first aesthetics consultation, here are some questions that can help you feel informed and confident:

  • What treatment do you recommend for my concern, and why?
  • What results can I realistically expect?
  • How long will the results last, and what maintenance is involved?
  • What are the potential side effects or risks?
  • How many sessions will I need?
  • Can I see before-and-after examples of similar cases?
  • What happens if I am not happy with the results?
  • What qualifications and training do your practitioners hold?

No question is too basic or too detailed. A good consultation welcomes them all.
